Joan Maragall además de ser un referente en la poesía catalana, amaba la música y, como hombre de su tiempo, se implicó activamente no sólo como espectador y diletante, sino también como intérprete de piano, en sesiones que ofrecía a amigos y familiares en su casa. Tomó posición frente al wagnerismo y de la "reintroducción" de Mozart.
