Abstract

This project analyses how religious diversity is accommodated in child protection services. Based on a qualitative methodology, a total of six interviews were carried out with different professionals from different backgrounds (social educators, school management teams and a religious affairs technician), in order to find out the current strategies, the existing shortcomings and the challenges faced by professionals in this area. The theoretical framework consists of five axes: the recognition of religious freedom as a fundamental right, the international, national and autonomous legal framework, the plural 2 Mina El Aabid - Judit Pérez Treball final de grau reality of religious diversity in Catalonia, the functioning of the child protection systems, and the specific areas of actuation on these centers. The results of the research show unequal accommodation of religious diversity in the different centres, often conditioned by the absence of specific protocols, lack of training of the teams and the unequal application of the recognized rights. All of this can have a negative impact on the emotional well-being of the children and adolescents in care. Faced with this reality, the paper proposes various recommendations to promote more inclusive care.
