Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven vil belyse hvilke normer for maskulinitet som uttrykkes av mannlige sykepleierstudenter, og hva dette kan si om forholdet mellom maskulinitet og sykepleie i Norge. Formålet er å få økt kunnskap om menns tilstedeværelse i norsk sykepleierutdanning. Oppgaven hviler på en sosialkonstruktivistisk kjønnsforståelse som forutsetter at kjønn er sosialt konstruert, og at mennesker gjør kjønn i sosiale kontekster. Med kvalitativ metode som utgangspunkt består det empiriske materialet av ni intervjuer med etnisk norske mannlige sykepleierstudenter. I lys av maskulinitetsteori knyttes funnene i oppgaven til tre typologier: Hegemonisk maskulinitet, omsorgsmaskulinitet og taus maskulinitet. Mine analyser viser at menn i norsk sykepleierutdanningen ikke nødvendigvis representerer grunnleggende endringer i profesjonens kjønnsdelte praksiser. Bildet er likevel ikke entydig og informantene fremstiller alternative normer for maskulinitet. Mine analyser viser likevel at mannlige karriereryttere i sykepleien kan ha bidratt til at mannlige sykepleierstudenter som ønsker omsorgsorientert karriere møtes med sosiale sanksjoner.
