It is well known that children in daycare are at higher risk of aquiring infections. Less obvious is what that in each case would be the proper actions taken regarding several aspects: Should the child be kept at home and for how many days? Should the child receive any treatment and what would be the treatment of choice? Could any measures be taken to shorten the course of the disease? And what is the best way of minimizing spread? Today these questions seem to have as many answers as there are daycare centers. Based on this background the project's goal was to create a brochure to be handed out to parents with children in daycare. It's contents could operate as the "kindergarten health policy". This would eliminate any doubt about required abcence from daycare during different illnesses, thereby reducing controvercy between parents and personell. The brochure could ensure some children better treatment during illness, and on the other hand reduce the number of unnecessary visits to general practitoners. The brochure is meant to be useful in an everyday setting, hence rare conditions are left out. I was seeking to establish up-to-date knowledge about the most common disorders amongst children in daycare in regard to ethiology, epidemiology, symptomatology, treatment, prognosis and prevention. I studied litterature in the form of books, articles and abstracts through pub-med and the Norwegian department of health's webpage. This diverse information was incorporated into a background text from which the information in the brochure was extracted.
