Bilder i samfunnsfag

Abstract

Denne undersøkelsen studerer teori for bilder i samfunnsfag utfra en perseptuell tilnærming. Gjennom studier av teoritekster kartlegges relevant, ukontroversiell viten om bilders virkemåte, menneskelig persepsjon og kognitive prosesser knyttet til bilder. Undersøkelsen gjøres utfra et grovt skille mellom en strukturalistisk tilnærming og et perseptuelt perspektiv. Tekstene undersøkes i forhold til etablert empirisk basert viten om syn og kognisjon. Undersøkelsen inneholder også en grov kartlegging i pensum i et utvalg emner på bachelorutdanning i samfunnsfag i Norge. Kartleggingen peker i samme retning som ulike faglige tekster: Strukturalistisk forståelse av bilder som et språklig uttrykk som kan undersøkes med lingvistiske verktøy er dominerende innen samfunnsfag i høyere utdanning i Norge. En vesentlig konklusjon i undersøkelsen er at den strukturalistiske teorien om bilder er i konflikt med etablert empirisk basert viten om syn og kognisjon. Den er reduktiv i forhold til å beskrive bilders formative virkemåte, meningskonstruksjon og i forholdet til følelser og transparens.
