Abstract

E-post har i de siste åra kommet som en vanlig kommunikasjonsmåte i hverdagslivet til mange i Norge. Denne oppgaven tar utgangspunkt i 18 personer og deres bruk av e-post. Gjennom kvalitative dybdeintervjuer har jeg fått del i deres historier om hvordan de har domestisert kommunikasjonsteknologien. Oppgavens formål er å studere hvordan e-post framstår for oss som en sjanger, og til hva og hvilke formål vi benytter oss av sjangeren e-post. Jeg tar videre for meg hvordan vi benytter e-post til å opprettholde kontakt med private relasjoner og på hvilken måte kjønn spiller inn i måten vi bruker e-post på. Et av hovedtrekkene ved det moderne er atskillelsen fra sted og rom. Det fører til at hvor vi befinner oss fysisk ikke trenger å være ensbetydende med hvor vi befinner oss sosialt. Jeg tar for meg hva dette har å si for våre forestillinger om hva som er arbeid og hva som er fritid, og hvordan e-post er med på å forandre hvordan vi forholder oss til disse to kategoriene.
