Abstract

Oppgaven er en undersøkelse av hvordan kjønn, seksualitet, rase og sosial klasse blir fremstilt i musikkvideomediet. Som et resultat av kombinasjonen musikk, tekst og bilde, ser jeg på musikkvideoen som en viktig arena for performativitet og identitetskonstruksjon. Jeg har belyst hvordan tekst, bilde og spesielt musikk kan konnotere kjønn, seksualitet, rase og sosial klasse. I denne sammenhengen blir intertekstualitetsbegrepet et viktig redskap. Det har også vært et viktig poeng å få frem hvordan disse fire identitets kategoriene blir fremstilt forskjellig i forskjellige musikkgenre. Oppgaven inneholder musikkvideoanalyser av følgende artister: Whitney Houston: I wanna dance with somebody, Guns N Roses: November Rain, Skunk Anansie: Charlie Big Potatoe, The Darkness: I believe in a thing called love, Eminem: Ass like that, Missy Elliott: Work it, Destiny s Child: Survivor og N.E.R.D. She wants to move. Teoretisk har oppgaven en tverrfaglig vinkling. Min plattform har vært musikkvitenskap, spesielt litteratur fra senere populærmusikkforskning, men litteratur fra medievitenskap, kjønnsteori og sosiologi har også vært nyttig
