Abstract

Oppgaven ser på muligheten for å benytte eldre flybilder med varierende kvalitet og temporal oppløsning for å detektere signifikant overflatedeformasjon i fjellsiden Torfastaðamelar, Hlíðarfjöll på Øst Island. Ved bruk av digital fotogrammetri genereres terrengmodeller og ortofoto over fjellsiden for å til slutt å utføre krysskorrelasjonsmatching av ortofoto fra 1977, 1988 og 2002. Det foreligger ingen absolutte nøyaktighetsvurderinger ettersom datagrunnlaget ikke er knytte til noen form for fasit eller referanseramme. De målte hastighetsvektorene viser en relativ overflatebevegelse fra omkring 9 til 11 cm per år. Fjellsiden ligger i et periglasialt miljø, og målinger fra borehull i feltområdet viser ikke tegn til permafrost, selv om det er utbredt strukturmark med tilsynelatende aktive prosesser. Det argumenteres for at den klimatiske historien og landformene i området taler for en tidligere tilstedeværelse av permafrost. Videre argumenteres det for at dagens geomorfologiske prosesser er dominert av god tilgang til vann og frostprosesser.
