Abstract

La visita domiciliaria ha sido a través de los años el medio principal para que el equipo de salud interactúe con la familia. El hogar sigue siendo un ambiente deseable para trabajar con la familia, ya que ofrece la oportunidad de observar las interacciones familiares, los patrones de adaptación y los estilos de vida. Las familias aparecen en su aspecto más natural dentro de su territorio familiar. El llamado «cuidado informal» es aquel que se presta a personas dependientes por parte de familiares, amigos u otros que no reciben remuneración por la ayuda que ofrecen. El cuidado informal se caracteriza porque generalmente es gratuito, se realiza en el ámbito privado y nuestra sociedad lo asume como una extensión de las tareas domésticas. Las intervenciones socio sanitarias se dirigen tanto hacia la persona dependiente como hacia su entorno. Por tanto, un elemento fundamental es la labor de apoyo a la familia y cuidadora principal, así como el establecimiento de una verdadera relación de ayuda para la persona dependiente, sin olvidar las propias necesidades de quien cuida (a menudo un verdadero paciente oculto).
