EDUCATEX: Un videojuego educativo para matemáticas

Abstract

This Master’s Thesis provides a prototype of an educational videogame called EducaTeX for mathematics. It is developed to make the teaching-learning of mathematics more interactive and fun. It is not a closed project, but can be extended at any time with more content in a modular way. Given the freedom offered by the software used for the development of this tool, Godot Engine, a wide variety of interfaces and functionalities can be designed to improve the user experience. It has been oriented towards both Windows and Android. A way to connect the devices through a common local network has been implemented, to control the content displayed on the screens of the devices and to visualise the users' progress in the levels that are set, during their use in the classroom. Customised content has also been added, such as self-designed characters. This resource has been implemented with students from a secondary school in the province of Almería. Specifically, with a group of 3rd ESO Diversification. In order to cover the contents specified in the school's curriculum, an interface has been developed to practise the solving of problems of direct, inverse and compound proportionality. Students' classroom behaviour when using EducaTeX improved compared to the more traditional methodology they were used to, not only at a cognitive level but also at an affective level, as they developed their problem-solving competence while increasing their participation, motivation and enjoyment in the tasks performed in the classroom with this resource. The short-answer questionnaire, completed anonymously by the participants after using EducaTeX, confirmed these results and suggested points for improvement to be taken into account in future updates.
