Abstract

Given the increasing problems of salinity and drought in soils, there is a need to research and develop new crops that adapt to these problems and also offer an opportunity for both producers and consumers. Mesembryanthemum crystallinum, commonly known as "barrilla" belongs to the group of halophytic plants which are capable of withstanding high concentrations of salts and drought, in addition to having excellent nutritional contributions which make it even more interesting, if possible. The halophytic behavior of barrilla has been demonstrated by evaluating the absorption of fertigation, nutrients such as nitrates and potassium, and their production as a function of different electrical conductivities. Obtaining as a result a very good behavior if we compare it with other plants, since a reduction in production is not observed up to an E.C. of 4.0 dS m-1
