Investigación en fertilidad: una perspectiva bioética

Abstract

The problems of fertility and sterility in humans have been growing in recent decades due to multiple factors. Science and biotechnology have been under pressure to try to provide solutions to these problems, but they have done so on the basis of techno-scientific rationale. On the other hand, real solutions can be reached when one conducts research in these fields and has a true rationality as epistemological support. These solutions, rather than supplanting or replacing the original protagonists (parents facing so many obstacles), appreciate them as individuals, seeking the wellbeing of the child they want to conceive. Moreover, such solutions treat the practice of sexuality with the dignity of its own, without avoiding it. Complications increase when the parents themselves, imbued by a false culture that makes having children a right, are those who demand a technical solution that utilizes them and degrades them as human beings. Bioethics, as a person-centered field, offers arguments that guide research in fertility while respecting human beings and future generations.
