Abstract

Las muertes intencionalmente producidas continúan siendo una causa frecuente de pérdida de vidas en el mundo. Diversos estudios han reportado patrones diferentes en el comportamiento de este tipo de muertes entre hombres y mujeres. Método: Un estudio ecológico analizado con series de tiempo, usando la metodología de Box-Jenkins, para evaluar el comportamiento de este tipo de muertes durante un período de ocho años y comparar las tendencias entre hombres y mujeres. Resultados: Se encontró que las muertes violentas son más frecuentes entre hombres, que los homicidios tienen un patrón estacional en hombres y que la frecuencia muestra una tendencia decreciente, excepto para el suicidio en mujeres, grupo en el cual el comportamiento es estable y que podría generar, a largo plazo, que se pierda la diferencia en la frecuencia entre hombres y mujeres. Conclusión: Establecer las características de las muertes violentas por sexo permitirá el diseño de políticas con mayor orientación, según las características específi cas de riesgo en los dos grupos.
