En el presente texto la autora hace un estudio comparativo de los principales tipos de observatorios de medios que existen en América Latina. Para ello parte de una revisión teórica sobre el particular así como de los testimonios aportados por los editores de nueve observatorios latinoamericanos que operan actualmente, y con quienes mantuvo comunicación. La clasificación que aquí se presenta atiende a criterios como: 1) la temática que investigan los observatorios, 2) su origen y composición social, 3) la cobertura de los medios que analizan, o 4) el tipo de medios que observan.
The author presents a comparative study of the main types of media observatories existing in Latin America. To do this, she starts from a theoretical revision on the subject as well as of the testimonies contributed by the editors of nine currently operating Latin American observatories whom she interviewed. The classification presented herein is based on criteria such as i) the range themes that observatories investigate; ii) their origin and social composition, iii) the coverage of the media that they analyze or iv) the kind of media that they observe.
