Compromisos de la docencia universitaria

Abstract

University teaching might be understood by trying to reflect on six domains or general aspects –among many others possible- eventually to be developed in every educator. These general aspects could be the foundation for future research work. The formulation of each one is proposed as questions, so as to provoke thinking on the subject and to have every university teacher consider the following: 1) what a university teacher is in essence; 2) the elements and actions that permit to persevere as university teacher with an emphasis on coexistence and exchange among teachers and on “studiosity” understood as an intellectual habit; 3) the acknowledgement of students as human, singular beings, emphasizing the student- teacher relationships; 4) understanding student evaluation as the act of assessing the learning process rather than the result.; 5) the transmission of knowledge and the change of transmission methods; 6) every teacher’s positive, proactive assistance so that the university to which they belong improves, always searches for the truth and tries to preserve and develop its own university charisma.
