Control y prevención de las infecciones nosocomiales

Abstract

Las infecciones nosocomiales son una importante causa de morbilidad y mortalidad a nivel mundial. Estas infecciones, en muchos casos evitables, son uno de los principales efectos adversos de la atención sanitaria. Por ello, es de vital importancia llevar a cabo medidas que conduzcan a la prevención y control de la mismas evitando así que los pacientes adquieran infecciones durante su estancia hospitalaria. En este capítulo se mencionan las infecciones nosocomiales más frecuentes, así como los principales microorganismos implicados. Se citan los principales reservorios y el mecanismo de transmisión de los microorganismos causantes de infecciones nosocomiales, y se analizan los diferentes métodos de control, físicos y químicos. Estos métodos se emplean con el fin de minimizar la presencia de estos microorganismos tanto del medioambiente hospitalario (fómites, superficies, aire) como de las manos del personal sanitario, y así evitar el desarrollo de infecciones nosocomiales. Asimismo, y debido al aumento de la prevalencia de bacterias resistentes a antimicrobianos y desinfectantes, se repasan los principales mecanismos implicados en la resistencia a los biocidas.
