Evolución paleoambiental y acción humana durante el Tardiglaciar y Holoceno en el Pirineo Occidental

Abstract

En esta Tesis Doctoral se estudian la evolución del paisaje y la dinámica paleoambiental durante el Tardiglaciar y el Holoceno en la vertiente sur del Pirineo Occidental, así como la acción humana sobre el mismo. En el marco del proyecto Life Inland wetlands of Northern Iberian Peninsula: management and restoration of mires and wet environments (TREMEDAL) se decidió realizar la investigación palinológica de cuatro humedales, dada la relevancia de este tipo de depósitos como archivos paleoambientales: turberas de Belate (Baztan/Ultzama), Gesaleta (Anué) y Baltsagorrieta (Esteribar) y el humedal paraturboso de Jauregiaroztegi (Auritz/Burguete). Las secuencias de las turberas de Baltsagorrieta y Gesaleta son las que abarcan una cronología más larga, comenzando la primera en 16975-16525 cal BP y la segunda, a lo largo del Interestadio Tardiglaciar (13968-13739 cal BP). En cambio, el registro de Belate empieza al inicio del Holoceno medio (8165-7981 cal BP).A lo largo de estos registros hemos observado como ha ido evolucionando el paisaje vegetal del Pirineo Occidental, desde los últimos eventos climáticos fríos del final del Pleistoceno superior, a la expansión de los bosques mixtos mesotermófilos con la llegada del Holoceno. Es, principalmente, a partir del Holoceno medio donde aparecen los indicadores de antropización. Si bien es ya durante el Holoceno reciente donde más se percibe la acción humana sobre el paisaje en el territorio analizado.Si bien con esta Tesis Doctoral hemos ampliado considerablemente nuestro conocimiento de la dinámica paleoambiental en los Pirineos Occidentales, en el futuro, es necesario seguir trabajando en este territorio, manteniendo la interdisciplinariedad.
