[EN] This contribution analyses not only the description of the Basque geographical and cultural space in the travel descriptions, but also the very specificities of the travellers’ perspectives. Assuming that the gaze regarding and evaluating the “other” is at the same time giving evidence of its own conditioned way of regarding, describing, evaluating and criticising, the article is approaching German travel descriptions of the 19th century describing the Basque Country, including those written by Wilhelm von Humboldt, Franz Lorinser and Alban Stolz, and some other published by unknown travellers.
