Adherencia al tratamiento en la esquizofrenia

Authors: Ruiz Manrique, Olatz;

Adherencia al tratamiento en la esquizofrenia

Abstract

[En]Medication adherence is a real problem for schizophrenic patients, which compromises their insertion in society and even more, it can cause severe medical consequences. For this reason, the aim of this report is to evaluate the effectiveness of the psychoeducational interventions and medication adherence together with the help of health professionals and/or family members in patients with schizophrenia. A systematic review was conducted in order to find an answer to the proposed goal, analyzing the response of the individuals to the different actions conducted, always taking into account the help of health professionals and family members. Nine articles were included: 4 systematic reviews and 5 randomised studies. The results showed key risk factors which provided a greater probability of no-adherence, resulting in more relapses and a poorer prognosis for the patient. Over time, it was seen that the interventions made with the patients improved medication adherence. Therefore, it was concluded that improving adherence in schizophrenia is a key factor for the patients, their families and society. This change could be achieved emphasizing the importance of medication adherence and by being closely monitored by health professionals. Keywords: schizophrenia, psychosocial treatment, adherence.
