Abstract

La Genetica vegetale, madre di tutte le Genetiche, ha segnato in modo incisivo il pensiero scienti co moderno grazie alle intuizioni di G. Mendel che riconobbe, attraverso l analisi del fenotipo, nuove varianti genetiche dovute alla ricombinazione. Dalla semplice analisi genetica dell uniformità degli ibridi e della segregazione, gli studi condotti sulle piante hanno contribuito sostanzialmente alla scoperta di fenomeni genetici quali eterosi, trasposoni, RNAi, struttura e regolazione dell espressione genica ecc. Sono così state approfondite le conoscenze di base, e sviluppate tecnologie sempre più avanzate con ricadute applicative in tutti i settori dell' attività umana, per il miglioramento della salute e dell' ambiente e a garanzia di produzione di cibo per le future generazioni.
