Dopo aver illustrato la biografia di alcuni fra i più famosi hackers, l'autore introduce la differenza fra hackers e crackers, accenna alla cultura hacker come si è sviluppata negli ultimi decenni, elenca alcune modalità di attacco ai sistemi informatici. L'autore analizza quindi il fenomeno della pirateria e commenta le principali disposizioni a tutela del diritto d'autore.
