Abstract

The main shortcoming of the biocontrol agents (BCAs) appears when they are applied in real conditions, either because they do not maintain the effectiveness obtained in laboratory conditions, or because results are not reproducible. For that reason, improving the performance of BCAs in pre-harvest conditions is considered a key aspect in the development of new biological control products, as well as obtaining economical and manageable products that can be stored for a long period of time. During this thesis it were obtained solid biological control products with the ability to develop biodegradable coatings, so that once applied, they develop a coating on the plant surface and improve the behaviour of BCAs in practical conditions. In particular, we worked with two BCAs: (i) Candida sake CPA-1 to control Botrytis cinerea on grapes; and (ii) Ampelomyces quisqualis to control powdery mildew on cucurbits.
