Abstract

This thesis offers a genealogy of the discourse on housing in Spain from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 21st century. It does so following the Nietzschean-Foucauldian methodological trail, and incorporating, from the field of psychoanalysis, the ideas that Freud and Lacan developed around the concept of the symptom. The symptom says of a transsubjective nodal category that participates, simultaneously, in both the subject and the discourse. Sinking its roots in what Lacan called the Real of the subject, the symptom is proof that all discourse is flawed. Consequently, this work identifies the different symptoms caused by the hegemonic discourse of housing produced throughout the historical period analyzed. At the same time, this work explores the relationship between the development of the concept of private property and the expansion of the modern Spanish State.
