Development of molecular lateral flow biosensors for non-covered medical needs

Abstract

The ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has highlighted the importance of being able to develop, produce and deploy rapidly diagnostic tests for emerging infectious diseases, as SARS-CoV-2 will not be the last threat. Moreover, the increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance has become a silent pandemic which is already costing millions of lives. In this context, Lateral Flow biosensors stand out as Point-of-care Tests (PoCT) to give solution to these and others non-covered medical needs in the market. Along Lateral Flow (LF), isothermal amplification is rising and allows to free amplification technologies of thermocyclers, which opens the door also to PoCT.
