Abstract

Migratory chains and networks of Ecuadorian families to Spain analyzes and studies the articulation, dynamic, and migratory chain and network configurations constructed around the migratory movement of Ecuadorian families to Spain during the last decade. The agudization of the Ecuadorian crisis, changes in social representations, circulation of information in regard to labor demand within migratory networks, among other things, brought as a result the femalization of the Ecuadorian flow. Our investigation undertakes the problematic of international migrations as an eminently social phenomenon and leads us to emphasize on power relations and social, economical, and financial practices used by the migrating families in their attempts to resist and elude restrictions imposed by the rich Estates that control flows according to economic variability. Through qualitative information collected in successive stages of field work in Totana (Murcia), Barcelona, and Madrid, and in various cities of Ecuador, we have reconstructed Ecuadorian families' socio-spatial trajectories to Spain, from the initial migration project at origin up to its possible resignifications at destiny. The approach of migratory chains and networks has been complemented with gender perspective, and as a way to emphasize our transatlantic posture, we have incorporated the perspective of analysis of transnationalism processes.
