Este trabalho investiga se as pessoas são capazes de gerar atitudes, construindo impressões dos outro, somente através da percepção da imagem corporal. Além disso, busca determinar se diferentes formas corporais produzem distintas configurações ou imagens mentais sobre os outros. Esta investigação adota uma estratégia metodológica mista, sequencial, formada por dois estudos. O primeiro, de caráter qualitativo emergente, permitiu através de entrevistas em profundidade, a 25 mulheres e 25 homens, identificar um conjunto de atitudes (características sócio demográficas, características físicas, cognitivas, comportamentais, de personalidade e emocionais) (Dalbosco, 2011). O segundo, quantitativo, confirmatório, mediante um estúdio empírico de uma amostra distinta, formada por 100 pessoas, permitiu validar os resultados do trabalho qualitativo. Os principais resultados conjuntos das investigações, mostram que a imagem corporal tem grande importância na construção da impressões do outro. Além de confirmar, de forma positiva, a utilização do método misto associado com o tema corpo e atitude.

This study investigates whether people are able to generate attitudes, creating impressions of each other, only through the perception of body image. It also seeks to determine whether different body shapes produce different settings or mental images of others. This research adopts a sequential mixed methodological strategy consisting of two studies. The first, with an emergent qualitative design and employing in-depth interviews with 25 women and 25 men, allowed to identify a set of attitudes (sociodemographic, physical, cognitive, behavioral, personality, and emotional characteristics) (Dalbosco, 2011). The second was quantitative and confirmatory. An empirical study of a different sample comprising 100 people allowed to validate the results of the qualitative work. The main results of these joint investigations show that body image is very important in building impressions of others. In addition to that, they confirm in a positive way the use of the mixed methodology associated with the body and attitude theme.
