Abstract

This PhD dissertation is a theoretical approach to the study of cinematic time in interactive audiovisual works, from two approaches: firstly, from a narrative organisation, their uses and temporal treatment; and secondly, their experience and perception. Time is a subject continuously being transformed in history due to the constant advance of information and communication technologies, which have modified the way we use and conceive it throughout images. Nowadays, in digital media, we need to pay attention to the new temporal configurations that are emerging, strongly conditioned by new digital interactive interfaces, mobile devices and the Internet. Based in the analysis of several case studies from cybertext, Future Cinema, Digital Arts and Videogames, this work provides temporal elements and frameworks related to digital storytelling and temporal experience, that allows an analysis of time phenomena and fosters future interactive experiences based on temporal enjoyment.

Aquesta tesi presenta una aproximació teòrica a l'estudi del temps cinemàtic en l'audiovisual interactiu, des de dues perspectives: la de l'estructuració narrativa, els seus usos i tractament temporal; i la de la seva vivència i percepció. L'avenç constant de les tecnologies de la informació i les comunicacions ha fet variar la manera com hem concebut i hem fet ús del temps, a través de les imatges en moviment al llarg de la història. En els mitjans digitals es generen ara múltiples noves configuracions temporals que cal estudiar, fortament condicionades per les noves interfícies interactives digitals, els dispositius mòbils i Internet. A partir de diversos casos d'estudi d'obres del cibertext, el Future Cinema, l'art digital o els videojocs; la tesi aporta elements conceptuals i models temporals vinculats a la narració digital i l'experiència temporal, que permeten analitzar el fenomen i orientar futures experiències interactives centrades en el gaudi temporal.
