Abstract

[cat] La alta prevalencia del ronquido y la demanda creciente de tratamientos efectivos para el mismo han promovido, en la última década, la utilización generalizada de tratamientos quirúrgicos simples y supuestamente efectivos, como la Úvulo-palato-plastia láser (LAUP). El ronquido es un fenómeno extraordinariamente frecuente entre la población de edad media, constituyendo un importante problema médico, familiar y social. El ronquido se ha asociado al Síndrome de Apneas Obstructivas del sueño (SAOS), patología cardio-vascular, disfunción diurna, asma y diabetes. La LAUP es una técnica sencilla, que se practica bajo anestesia local de forma ambulatoria y con una eficacia referida del 90%. Sin embargo la evidencia sobre la efectividad de la LAUP es limitada ya que no existen al respecto estudios randomizados, controlados con placebo. Además, existen resultados contradictorios cuando la efectividad de la técnica se valora mediante registros objetivos del ronquido. Si añadimos que la LAUP no carece de complicaciones, que es dudoso que se deba tratar a los roncadores no apneicos y los costes de esta técnica para el sistema sanitario, debemos replantearnos la utilidad de la LAUP. Para ello, se diseñó un estudio aleatorizado, controlado con placebo sobre la efectividad de la LAUP para el ronquido. Los objetivos secundarios fueron profundizar en el estudio objetivo del ronquido (registro acústico) e identificar factores predictivos de éxito quirúrgico.
