Comportamiento mecánico del esmalte dental

Abstract

Este trabajo presenta un análisis de las propiedades mecánicas del esmalte dental con el fin de caracterizar su comportamiento y comparar los resultados obtenidos con los reportados por estudios previos de investigaciones realizadas en los Estados Unidos. Se realizaron pruebas para pacientes Colombianos en busca de identificar las propiedades mecánicas del esmalte y su respuesta a diferentes estímulos mecánicos. Mediante ensayos estandarizados de microdureza se pudo establecer el comportamiento de propiedades como la dureza, tenacidad a la fractura y fragilidad, siguiendo parámetros muy semejantes a los establecidos para el mismo estudio por otros investigadores en el esmalte dental humano en pacientes jóvenes (18-28 años), obteniendo resultados particulares teniendo en cuenta aspectos como el arreglo estructural y la composición química del material, propiedades que mejoran el comportamiento del esmalte a esfuerzos mecánicos.
