Property has been an intrinsic concept to the existence of humanity. In this sense, a historical journey is undertaken, addressing both the classical concept of property and that of intellectual property. The study identifies significant events that contri buted to the formation and evolution of each concept. It concludes that these concepts have been formation and evolution of each concept. La propiedad ha sido un concepto intrínseco a la existencia del hombre. En este sentido, se realiza un recorrido histórico abordando tanto el concepto clásico de propiedad como el de propiedad intelectual. En el estudio se identifican eventos significativos que contribuyeron tanto a la formación como a la evolución de cada uno de los conceptos. Se concluye que han sido conceptos objeto de constante transformación, sujetos al ejercicio del poder, y se exploran los puntos de conexión y distanciamiento entre ellos en razón de sus características esenciales.
