La microscopía de barrido por sondas: Herramienta básica en las nanociencias

Abstract

La última generación en tecnología microscópica, ha puesto en escenario un conjunto de técnicas genéricamente denominadas Microscopía de Barrido por Sonda (Scanning Probe Microscopy – SPM). Tales herramientas dan la posibilidad de realizar análisis detallado de propiedades morfológicas, mecánicas, químicas, entre otras, de la superficie estudiada, con resoluciones que en algunos casos son mayores que las logradas en microscopía electrónica. Las nuevas tecnologías basadas en nanociencias, se han apoyado en estos instrumentos para obtener imágenes aumentadas de unos pocos grupos de átomos, cuyo orden obedece a la naturaleza misma o a la manipulación deliberada, a la cual se ha accedido gracias al desarrollo de la nanotecnología. En este trabajo se presenta una descripción básica de los principios de funcionamiento, el panorama general de las aplicaciones de la técnica SPM en el análisis de materiales y algunos resultados obtenidos sobre diferentes tipos de muestras.
