Implementación de estructuras planas en organizaciones colombianas

Abstract

La presente investigación es de tipo cualitativo con un enfoque descriptivo y de corte transversal, en la que se recogen definiciones de autores clave que permitan entender desde un punto de vista conceptual qué es la estructura plana, y se contrastan con la opinión de expertos colombianos y latinoamericanos (académicos, consultores y empresarios), para identificar las características de una estructura plana para este contexto, los impactos en la operación de las compañías y los requisitos clave de implementación. Lo anterior buscando dar luces sobre la aplicabilidad de este tipo de organizaciones en el contexto colombiano. Se encuentra que para los entrevistados la estructura plana es aquella con bajos niveles de formalización, centralización y diferenciación. Para configurarse de manera plana, las organizaciones deben ocuparse de contar con un propósito claro, una cultura fuerte que funcione como mecanismo de alineación, un talento humano con habilidades de autogestión altamente desarrolladas, un estilo de liderazgo pertinente y foco en el desempeño de los equipos y los individuos. Así mismo, que este tipo de organización ofrece ventajas muy relevantes en el contexto empresarial actual, tales como adaptación rápida a los cambios del entorno, mayor innovación, compromiso y proactividad de los colaboradores y un mejor clima laboral, y desventajas con alta complejidad para su gestión, asociadas a la desarticulación de la gestión, la materialización de conflictos de agencia, resistencia de los líderes ante la pérdida de poder y falta de coherencia entre el propósito corporativo y la estructura.

This is a qualitative research with a descriptive and cross-sectional approach, in which are collected definitions of key authors that allow a conceptual understanding of what is a flat structure and are contrasted with the opinion of Colombian and Latin American experts (academics, consultants and entrepreneurs), to identify the characteristics of a flat structure for this context, the impacts on the operation of the companies and the key implementation requirements. The above looking to shed light on the applicability of these types of organizations in the Colombian context. It is found that for the interviewees the flat organizational structure is that one with low levels of formalization, centralization, and differentiation. To adopt this type of structure, organizations must ensure a clear purpose, a strong culture that functions as an alignment mechanism, employees with highly developed self-management skills, a relevant leadership style and focuses on teams and individuals' performance. Likewise, interviewees agree on that this type of structure offers very relevant advantages in the current business context, such as rapid adaptation to changes in the environment, greater innovation, commitment and proactivity of employees and a better working environment; in the other hand, organizations with this structure will have to deal with highly complex disadvantages, associated with disorganization, the materialization of agency conflicts, resistance of leaders to the loss of power and lack of coherence between corporate purpose and structure.
