Algunas aleaciones Fe-C presentan una excelente combinación de tenacidad y resistencia mecánica, asociada a los productos de la reacción bainítica, que las hace útiles en la fabricación de componentes de máquinas sometidos a altos esfuerzos. Sin embargo, en nuestro medio el conocimiento de esta transformación es reducido; esto hace difícil la competitividad del sector metalmecánica en la economía globalizada. En este trabajo se hace un compendio de los conceptos básicos de la reacción bainítica, que va más allá de los textos clásicos de transformaciones de fases metálicas y considerando los últimos avances que se han realizado en su estudio. Además, se analizan los factores más importantes de la bainita tanto en aceros como en fundiciones nodulares. Se discuten los mecanismos de transformación, la cinética de reacción, las características microestructurales y las propiedades mecánicas. Elobjetivo del trabajo es difundir las nociones y técnicas requeridas para la implementación de esta transformación de fase, buscando promover el desarrollo de productos bainíticos.
Some Fe-C alloys have an excellent combination of toughness and mechanical strength, associated with the products of the bainitic reaction, which makes them useful in the manufacture of machine components under high stress. However, in our environment the knowledge of this transformation is reduced; This makes the competitiveness of the metalworking sector in the globalized economy difficult. In this work a compendium of the basic concepts of the bainitic reaction is made, which goes beyond the classical texts of metal phase transformations and considering the latest advances that have been made in their study. In addition, the most important factors of bainite in both steels and nodular smelters are analyzed. The transformation mechanisms, reaction kinetics, microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties are discussed. The objective of the work is to spread the notions and techniques required for the implementation of this phase transformation, seeking to promote the development of bainitic products.
