Abstract

Corporate finance aims to maximize shareholder value, in this text we will evaluate decisions that lead to value creation for a Health Promoting Entity (Entidad Promotora de Salud/EPS, hereinafter referred to as EPS) in Colombia. The EPS's in the market use different methods in order to maximize their profitability and sustainability over time, which is why this text seeks to understand: why some performance measures can lead to bad decisions and destroy value for an EPS, and in addition, understand how an EPS can create value with decisions regarding investment, financing and profitability. The motivation of this study originates taking into account that the health care system in Colombia is one of the most controversial, and that this system does not generate confidence among the Colombian population; as a consequence of inefficiency in service delivery, improper use of resources, operational shortcomings that generate cost overruns and uncertainty about its sustainability over time
