Controlo de qualidade de agregados finos de misturas betuminosas

Abstract

Com o aumento do volume e da agressividade do tráfego é exigida uma maior qualidade dos pavimentos. O aperfeiçoamento dos métodos de dimensionamento de pavimentos e a melhoria do comportamento das misturas betuminosas são por isso fundamentais. Este trabalho teve como principal objectivo estudar a influência da presença de contaminantes finos, aplicando as especificações técnicas relativas ao controlo de qualidade de agregados minerais, na qualidade final de misturas betuminosas. Foram seleccionados os dois principais tipos de agregados utilizados em Portugal e caracterizados de acordo com a normativa europeia na perspectiva da aplicação destes agregados em misturas betuminosas. No âmbito do estudo do comportamento dos finos em misturas, foram contaminadas amostras de Granito e de Calcário com diferentes percentagens de finos e, realizados ensaios para avaliação das propriedades físicas dos agregados - análise granulométrica, equivalente de areia e azul de metileno. Depois de caracterizados os agregados e os contaminantes foram produzidas quatro misturas de Granito e quatro de Calcário, nas quais foram utilizadas, respectivamente, Caulino e Argila Vermelha para substituir parte do material fino das misturas betuminosas. Foi caracterizado o seu comportamento através do método de Marshall e estudadas as propriedades relacionadas com o seu desempenho. Concluiu-se que a utilização de Granito contaminado com Caulino e de Calcário contaminado com Argila Vermelha altera significativamente as características mecânicas das misturas betuminosas.

With the increasing of volume and aggression of traffic, a higher quality of pavements is required. The improvement of methods of pavement design and improvement of the behavior of bituminous mixtures are therefore essential. This work had as main objective to study the influence of the presence of fine contaminants, applying the technical specifications for the quality control of mineral aggregates, in the final quality of bituminous mixtures. Were selected the two main types of aggregates used in Portugal and characterized them according to European standards in view of the application of these aggregates in bituminous mixtures. Within the scope of the behavior of fine in mixtures, were contaminated samples of limestone and granite with different percentages of fines. Were also realized tests to evaluate the physical properties of aggregates - determination of particle size distribution, sand equivalent test and methylene blue test. After the characterization of the aggregates and contaminants, were produced four mixtures of granite and four mixtures of Limestone, in which were used, respectively, Kaolin and Clay Red to replace part of the fine material of bituminous mixtures. Their behavior was characterized by the method of Marshall and studied the properties related to its performance. It was concluded that the use of Granite contaminated with Kaolin and of limestone contaminated with red clay significantly change the mechanical characteristics of bituminous mixtures.
