Utilização de invertebrados bentónicos em ecotoxicologia sedimentar

Abstract

Sediment ecotoxicological tests are an important bioassessment tool for marine and estuarine ecosystems. The benthic fauna is often the first to be affected by excesses pollution, the sedimentary habitat is ecologically fragile and when affected, will bring important implications for all other ecosystem strata. This work presents a literature review on the subject of sediment ecotoxicological tests, with emphasis in one of its key players, the amphipods, namely of the genus Corophium. The work gives an overview on how this issue is being handled in different countries, and presents case studies group relative to Portugal.
