A promoção da saúde em idosos com apoio social

Abstract

O aumento da esperança média de vida está associado à necessidade crescente de serviços sociais e cuidados de saúde, designadamente em razão do aumento da prevalência de doenças crónicas. Objectivo(s): Caracterizar as necessidades e prioridades das pessoas idosas com doença crónica, tendo subjacentes as áreas da promoção da saúde e os cuidados prestados. Métodos: Consiste num estudo exploratório do tipo quantitativo e descritivo. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: i) Questionário sócio-demográfico; ii) Índice de Barthel; e iii) Questionário sobre a promoção da saúde da pessoa idosa. A amostra global inclui 50 clientes (25 de LI e 25 de SAD) de uma IPSS. Resultados: Indicam que: i) em termos de capacidade funcional, a maioria da amostra global é independente (40%) ou apresenta dependência ligeira (36%); ii) na avaliação de aspectos relativos à saúde da pessoa idosa: mais de metade da amostra global (52%) tem excesso de peso; 46% da amostra global avalia a sua saúde como regular e 40% como má, sendo percepcionada de forma mais positiva pelos idosos de LI; a maioria da amostra global (78%) indica o psicológico como o aspecto da vida em que a doença crónica teve maior impacto e caracteriza a informação recebida pelos profissionais de saúde como alguma (66%) e como satisfatória (76%); iii) em relação às áreas de promoção da saúde: na alimentação, a maioria da amostra global (62%) refere que a doença crónica não implicou alteração nos seus hábitos alimentares; na actividade física, mais de metade da amostra global (58%) prática algum tipo; no sono e repouso, a maioria da amostra global (66%) tem problemas de sono (mais evidente em SAD) e nunca toma medicação para dormir (64%); nos acidentes domésticos, mais de metade da amostra global (58%) nunca costuma ter acidentes em casa, ainda que no SAD a maioria indique que costuma ter; no consumo de tabaco, a maioria não fuma (94%) e considera o tabaco prejudicial à saúde (92%); no consumo de álcool, cerca de metade dos idosos (52%) nunca bebe bebidas alcoólicas (percentagem mais elevada em LI) e dos que costumam beber, a maioria não demonstra vontade em abandonar o consumo; na vigilância de saúde/toma da medicação, a maioria dos participantes da amostra global (82%) toma sempre os medicamentos de acordo com a prescrição médica e costuma fazer vigilância regular da saúde (94%), mais expresso nos idosos de LI.

The increase in average life expectancy is associated with increased need for social services and healthcare, particularly in view of the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases. Objective(s): Characterize the needs and priorities of older people with chronic illness, while underlying areas of health promotion and care. Methods: Consists of a quantative and descriptive exploratory study. The instruments used were: i) socio-demographic questionnaire, ii) Barthel Index, and iii) Questionnaire regarding the promotion of health of the elderly. The overall sample included 50 clients (25 LI and 25 SAD) from an IPSS. Results: Indicate that: i) in terms of functional capacity, most of the bulk sample is independent (40%) or shows slight dependence (36%), ii) in evaluation of aspects regarding health of the elderly: more than half of the overall sample (52%) are overweight, 46% of the aggregate sample consider their health as regular and 40% as bad, being it perceived more positively by the elderly LI; most of the bulk sample (78%) indicate that chronic disease had a greater impact in psychological aspects of their lives and characterizes the information received by health professionals as some (66%) and as satisfactory (76%), iii) in terms of health promotion areas: in food ingestion, most of the sample (62%) reported that chronic disease did not involve changes in their eating habits; in physical activity, more than half of the overall sample (58%) practice some kind; in sleep and rest, most of the sample (66%) have sleeping problems (most evident in SAD) and never take sleeping pills (64%); domestic accidents, more than half of the sample (58%) never tend to have accidents at home, even though in SAD they indicate they often do; tobacco consumption, the majority does not smoke (94%) and considers tobacco harmful to health (92%); in alcohol consumption, approximately half of the sample (52%) never drink alcohol (higher percentage in LI) and those who usually drink, do not show willingness to quit drinking; in health monitoring/medication: most participants (82%) always take their medication according to prescription, and usually do regular health surveillance (94%), more expressed in the elderly LI.
