Turismo emissor da China para Portugal

Abstract

This dissertation aims to identify the potential of Portugal to become a touristic destination for outbound Chinese tourism. Firstly the conceptual framework related to this field of investigation was summarized. Factors that influence the Chinese outbound tourism, Chinese tourist characteristics and Portugal as a touristic destination have been characterised. In the third part, the methods used to conduct this study are described and the research questions explained. In order to verify the research questions, an empirical study was conducted. In that study travel agencies interested in having commercial relations with the P.R.of China were interviewed. The objective was to understand their knowledge and adaptation to the Chinese market. Two interviews were, also, done to experts that gave us some more information on this subject. This study led to some interesting results to the understanding of the Chinese outbound tourism and the benefits that Portugal can get if is to become a destination of those tourists The major results of this work consist in the definition of the type of the Chinese tourist that visits Portugal as being psycocentric type; perceiving the chinese image of Portugal as being a safe, historic and good weather country. Another result is the realisation that there is still a lot of work to be done so that Portugal uses its potential as a destination within the Chinese touristic markets.
