Abstract

ABSTRACT: This thesis aims mainly to deepen the knowledge and extend the comprehension of the interception phenomenon, integral and significant component of the hydrologic cycle. The analysis exposed throughout this thesis comes on the sequence of previous studies accomplished on Mountain range of Caramulo, more specifically, in a stand of maritime pine with about 16 years. Gross rainfall, throughfall and stemflow had been estimated in which concerns the hydrologic year of 2005, and the obtained results were, respectively, 960, 748 and 49 mm. Thus, the interception corresponds to 163mm or in other words to 17% of the gross rainfall. The measurements were carried out using two setting ups, comprising a total of 27 rainfall gauges and 19 stemflow collectors. Relating one of the setting ups, the rainfall gauges have been put in diverse areas, below canopy and gaps. The other set up embraced random distribution of the rainfall gauges. Moreover, the interception lose was estimated by means of Aston equation and by Gash sparse model. On one hand, the interception loses calculated through Gash sparse model is very similar to the measured interception, on the other hand the Aston formula, underestimate it.
