Abstract

The present study aims to contribute to the increase in Auditory Processing evaluation instruments available for European Portuguese. Due to the non-existence of a battery of tests for Auditory Processing evaluation in Portuguese, a set of tests including all the “special tests” types was created by selecting the tests more widely used internationally: Pitch Pattern Sequence Test, Speech in Noise, Filtered Speech, Staggered Spondaic Word Test (SSW) and Binaural Fusion. The existence of this battery of tests for European Portuguese constitutes the main result of this dissertation. The second most important result, from the application of the test battery to two groups, with and without difficulties of discrimination of speech in noise, is the fact that only the Speech in Noise test is capable of separating the two groups. This test presents results correlated with listeners' complaints – obtained by a questionnaire The correlation results indicate to be a test complementary to the others integrating the developed battery. Another important result, of a different kind, is the very detailed review of existing auditory processing evaluation tests.
