Caracterização de argamassas industriais

Abstract

For many thousands of years that the use of mortars always was associated with the construction process; however, the beginning of the industrial production of ready-to-use mortars only starts to have an expression in middle of the past century. In Portugal, first mortars of this type started to be produced in the beginning of nineties, constituting a relatively recent concept. The technological advance in the production of mortars and the increasing development of the civil construction, has contributed for the acceptance of these products by the market. The present work aims to elaborate a characterization of industrials mortars, particularly of dry mortars, with the purpose to value its intrinsic quality, through the correct use and application, in order to reach the results desired for its users, but also, has a clear purpose to contribute for the improvement of the technology and know-how in the mortars sector. In this way, this work has a first approach to the origin and evolution of these products, some definitions, classifications and properties. Next, it describes the materials used in its formulations, namely, admixtures and additives responsible for the modification of their properties, adjusting them to determined conditions of daily established use and performance, thus distinguishing, industrials mortars of the traditional ones. However, the differences between these mortars do not extinguish in the use of additives. Industrials mortars, when being produced in industrial units, endowed with equipment and technology, also described here, is able to control rigorously the formulations and to guarantee the quality of its raw materials. In the scope of this work, an overview is also given on the industrial mortar sector in Portugal, which involved the research, data collection and its consequent analysis. Finally, it is also reported and characterized the most current pathologies and presented three study-cases associated with industrial render pathologies, respective diagnosis and treatment strategies.
