Abstract

A presente dissertação constitui uma contribuição para o conhecimento da importância da avaliação do desempenho organizacional com vista a atingir a Excelência. A avaliação de desempenho tem assumido uma importância crescente no meio organizacional, tendo surgido uma multiplicidade de ferramentas de apoio à avaliação e melhoria das organizações e um conjunto de prémios capazes de promover a auto-avaliação e o caminho da Excelência. A análise bibliográfica realizada demonstrou a importância de algumas ferramentas mais proeminentes para alcançar a melhoria do desempenho e revelou o interesse crescente dos Prémios de Excelência como modelos de auto-avaliação e de melhoria das organizações. O trabalho desenvolvido baseou-se na identificação, análise e avaliação crítica das ferramentas mais utilizadas para avaliar e melhorar o desempenho organizacional e dos principais Prémios de Excelência e o seu impacto no meio organizacional. O resultado deste estudo permitiu evidenciar a utilidade dos Modelos de Excelência dos Prémios de Qualidade como modelos capazes de promover e reconhecer a melhoria do desempenho. Através de um estudo de caso referente a um Prémio de Excelência Regional, o Midlands Excellence Awards, conclui-se que a menor complexidade subjacente a este modelo facilitaria a sua adaptação e aplicação às organizações da região de Aveiro.

The present Thesis intends to be a contribution to increase the knowledge of the importance of organizational performance measurement in order to reach the Excellence. The performance measurement has been gained an increasing importance in organizations; consequently, several tools have been established for measurement support and to improve the organization performance. Also, several awards have been proposed to promote the self-assessment and the Excellence. The bibliographic review showed the importance of some of the main tools to reach the performance improvement and, simultaneously, revealed the increasing interest of the Excellence Awards as models of self-assessment and organizational improvers. The work was based on identification, analysis and critical evaluation of the most common tools used to measure and improve the organization performance and also of the main Excellence Awards and its impact in organizations. The result of this study allowed to evidence the usefulness of the Excellence Models of Quality Awards as models which promotes and recognize the performance improvement. The work involved a case study referring to an Regional Excellence Award, the Midlands Excellence Awrads, which allowed to conclude that it simplicity are favourable to application to Aveiro’s region organizations.
