O impacto da economia informal no crescimento económico da Guiné-Bissau

Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyze the impact that the informal economy has on the economic growth of Guinea-Bissau. To study this relationship, variables such as GDPg, QG and PC were included in the econometric model. To reach a robust and accurate result, a time series data model was used between the period of 2000 and 2023, using the ARDL model estimation considered the ideal model for the variables of this kind. In addition to the econometric analysis, interviews were conducted with entrepreneurs who work in the informal sector, which allowed a deeper understanding of the reality experienced by these people and reinforce the practical validity of the results obtained. The results obtained are consistent and support the thesis defended by several authors referenced in the literature review, according to which, in less developed countries, the informal economy tends to be higher compared to more developed countries. That is, the result shows that the informal economy has a negative relationship with economic growth, that is, the greater the informality, the lower the economic growth. Thus, the results also point to the need to create public policies that make the government more efficient and less bureaucratic, as well as the strengthening of the fight against corruption at all levels, as an essential condition for reducing informality and promoting sustainable economic growth.
