Comportamento ao fogo do vidro estrutural

Abstract

This thesis results from a research work, aimed at increasing the knowledge of the structural application of glass in construction. Currently, the glass is seen as synonymous of light, beauty and transparency. These features, when combined with the properties of thermal and acoustic insulation, anti-shock and fire behaviour, contribute to the fascination that mankind has always had on this subject. Glass is a traditional building material, where designers can find many possibilities for realization of their projects, hardly achievable with other materials. In recent decades, there has been a significant growth in the glass sector, largely due to the development of new solutions, innovative technologies of production and the increasing complexity associated with existing works. This work, through the various chapters, aims to contribute to a better understanding of the properties of this material, methods of design, connections and fire performance of glass. Finally, we present a study on the influence of the breaking of glass in global temperature of a fire compartment. It used the OZone program, based on the concept of natural fire safety as an aid in this study.
