Abstract

This Internship Report is part of the Supervised Pedagogical Practice and Educational Orientation Seminar curricular units of the Master's Degree in Pre-School Education (PSE) and Teaching in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education (CBE) and deals with the development of an Intervention-Research Project on self-regulation learning and autonomy through the exploration of the HighScope curricular model in a 2nd grade class and a group of PSE. The main objectives of the Intervention-Research Project (IRP) were: a) to design and implement activities for a group of preschool education and 2nd grade children that promote self-regulation of learning and autonomy; b) to find out how self-regulation of learning influences children's autonomy, through the exploration of the HighScope curriculum model; c) to identify the potential and limitations of the PII in children's learning; d) to explore the effects of the PII on the professional and personal development of the trainee teacher and educator. In this sense, the theoretical framework supporting the IRP presents the concepts of self-regulation of learning and autonomy, systematises some theoretical models, the role of the educator/teacher and the strategies for self-regulation of learning, underpins the importance of autonomy in learning and explores the HighScope curriculum model, its origin, evolution and principles. This IRP, with its action-research characteristics, encompassed various data collection techniques, such as: non-participant direct observation; participant observation; document compilation and semi-structured interview techniques. The data obtained was analysed using the technique of content analysis and quantitative analysis. The obtained results show that self-regulation of learning influences children's autonomy. Throughout the PII, it was observed that the children began to demonstrate a greater ability to make decisions, plan and reflect on their learning.
