Abstract

This research, carried out in the context of a curricular internship, is part of the IX - Experimental Research publishing house at Design Factory Aveiro, whose aim is to support the development of projects in the areas of product, graphic and editorial design, providing resources and establishing relationships with industry in order to commercialise them. The project is based on the pre-established brief "Collection of small household objects" and aims to investigate, through a reflective practical approach, the relationship between users and manual household utensils. Initially, by reflecting on how the presence and language of the domestic material universe has progressed in tandem with society and is currently reflected in this context and in design. Based on this analysis, an opportunity for intervention was identified, which consisted of reinterpreting a basic set of tools, objects that usually have a technical language that is not suited to the domestic context and with which the connection is merely utilitarian, reflected in superfluous consumption and a negligent relationship with them. The approach to the project is based on the functional and formal evolution of the typology being worked on and the quest to create an emotional connection, comfort and esteem between the user and the designed objects. In the final phase, the prototypes are made in partnership with industry, through immersive collaboration in the iron casting process of the company CIF - Companhia Industrial de Fundição. During the course of the project, conceptual development takes place through a dialogue and confrontation between concepts, products, authorial perspectives, observation, drawing and mock-ups. The aim of this document is to contribute to the sharing and discussion of the act of designing in product design.
