Desenvolvimento de motor de foguete a propelentes líquidos

Abstract

The present work addresses the development process of a liquid propellant rocket engine using electrically driven pumps, intended to be integrated into a sounding rocket. A flight simulation tool is developed to compare the developed solution with a pressure-fed engine. Subsequently, the methodology for obtaining the main components of the propulsion group is described, namely the combustion chamber, the nozzle, the cooling system, and heat transfer analysis is also conducted. The entire fuel supply system, which consists of two centrifugal pumps, motors, inverters, batteries, and fluid tanks, is also designed. The mass of all components is calculated to compare the developed solution with the reference solution. Finally, optimization of various engine parameters is carried out to maximize the altitude reached by a given rocket in a flight scenario. Throughout the dissertation, all the equations in the numerical models implemented in MATLAB are described in detail. These models are used to analyze and compare different engine parameters, with the objective of finding the best design and optimizing engine performance. The propellant supply system design mainly focuses on the analysis of flow rates and pressure drops which must be respectively managed and surpassed by the electric pumps.
