Galgamentos em obras costeiras: influência da cota de fundo

Abstract

O galgamento em obras costeiras tem sido um problema presente na costa de Portugal. Este fenómeno tem sido alvo de vários estudos para prever o comportamento das ondas e estimar a quantidade de água galgada. Estes estudos são desenvolvidos com o suporte de modelos numéricos, formulações matemáticas, testes em modelos físicos, estudo do desempenho de obras já existentes, etc. Têm uma grande importância para prever o comportamento das ondas sobre o talude das estruturas e para se conseguir dimensionar da maneira mais eficiente e segura as obras de defesa costeira. Estes estudos permitem verificar que vários fatores têm influência na quantidade de água galgada, como a altura de onda, período de onda, cota do nível da superfície do mar, etc. Contudo, um dos possíveis motivos para o acréscimo deste fenómeno ao longo do tempo é a variação da cota de fundo, na frente das obras costeiras. Neste trabalho foi avaliado o impacto que a alteração da cota de fundo na frente de obras marítimas tem nos galgamentos. Para tal, foram efetuados ensaios, em modelo físico, avaliando diferentes condições de perfil de praia, níveis de água e períodos de onda, permitindo a comparação e discussão dos resultados obtidos.

Overtopping in coastal structures has been a problem along the coast of Portugal. This phenomenon has been the subject of several studies to predict wave behavior and estimate the amount of water overtopped. These studies are carried out with the support of numerical models, mathematical formulas, tests on physical models, analysis of performance of existing structures, etc. They have a great importance for predicting the behavior of waves on the slope of structures and for being able to dimensioning coastal defense structures in the most efficient and safe way. These studies show that various factors have influence in the amount of water overtopped, such as wave height, wave period, sea level, etc. However, one of the possible reasons for the increase in this phenomenon over time is the variation in the bottom elevation in front of the coastal structures. This work evaluated the impact of the water depth variations in front of sea structures on overtopping. To this end, were carried out tests, on a physical model, evaluating different beach profile conditions, water levels and wave periods, allowing the results obtained to be compared and discussed.
