Abstract

As estradas florestais são essenciais para a exploração da floresta fazendo acesso às zonas de exploração e facilitando o transporte de toda a matéria-prima para os diversos locais de processamento. Desempenham também um papel importante no combate a incêndios florestais, permitindo a monitorização destas zonas durante todo o ano e facilitando a movimentação dos veículos de combate em situações de incêndio. Para que a rede existente corresponda aos requisitos que devem ser assegurados para estabelecer boas condições de circulação neste tipo de operações, este trabalho visa o desenvolvimento de um sistema de classificação para estradas florestais adaptado a Portugal. Pretende-se facilitar a classificação das estradas pertencentes à rede viária florestal, bem como fornecer orientações para o planeamento e projeto geométrico deste tipo de estradas. Para este efeito realizou-se uma revisão da literatura focada na pesquisa dos sistemas de classificação existentes e indicações técnicas em manuais de boas práticas internacionais dedicados a esta temática. Com base na literatura definiram-se diferentes classes a atribuir a qualquer estrada florestal considerando as suas características, existentes ou previstas. Adicionalmente, incluíram-se indicações de projeto de acordo com a classe definida, constituindo deste modo uma proposta de sistema de classificação de estradas florestais. Da aplicação desta metodologia resultou um sistema com 3 classes de importância que enquadra todas as estradas pertencentes à rede viária florestal. Esta classificação define o âmbito e caracteriza cada classe em 11 parâmetros, englobando indicadores geométricos e de traçado. Para avaliação crítica do sistema desenvolvido, este foi aplicado a um caso de estudo para analisar criticamente a adequabilidade do mesmo às zonas florestais portuguesas.

Forest roads are essential for the harvesting systems of the forest crops, providing access to the areas of extraction and facilitating the transport of all materials to the various processing sites. They also play an important role in fighting forest fires, allowing the monitoring of these areas throughout the year and facilitating the movement of fire-fighting vehicles in fire situations. In order to ensure that the existing network meets the requirements that must be ensured to establish good circulation conditions in this type of operations, this work aims to develop a classification system for forest roads adapted to Portugal. The aim is to facilitate the classification of roads belonging to the forest road network and to provide guidance for planning and geometric design of such roads. For this purpose, a literature review was conducted focusing on the research of existing classification systems and technical indications in international best practice manuals dedicated to this subject. Based on the literature, different classes were defined to be assigned to any forest road considering its characteristics, existing or planned. Additionally, design indications were included according to the defined class, thus constituting a proposal for a forest road classification system. The application of this methodology resulted in a system with 3 classes of importance that encompasses all roads belonging to the forest road network. This classification defines the scope and characteristics each class in 11 parameters, including geometric and design indicators. For critical evaluation of the developed system, it was applied to a case study in order to critically analyze its suitability for Portuguese forest areas.
