Abstract

As ocorrências pegmatíticas que se situam nas imediações de Pinheiro-Aguiar da Beira, nunca tinham sido objecto de um estudo mais aprofundado e sistematizado tendo em vista a sua prospecção, cartografia e caracterização mineralógica. No presente trabalho executou-se um ensaio de prospecção com o método geofísico electromagnético VLF na sua componente magnético no pegmatito com a referência de Pinheiro II, cujos resultados foram encorajadores. Procedeu-se a um levantamento das ocorrências pegmatíticas e nas mais favoráveis, foram executados ensaios físicos e químicos tendentes a caracterizarem as aptidões tecnológicas dos feldspatos presentes. Inicialmente apresenta-se uma caracterização cristaloquímica do feldspato, seus modos de ocorrência, métodos de beneficiação, interesse industrial e ainda uma análise resumida do mercado interno de feldspato. São descritos, seguidamente os aspectos de natureza geológica e estrutural da área de estudo, nomeadamente a geomorfologia, enquadramento estrutural baseado na interpretação de fotografia aérea à escala 1/15000 e geológico com descrição pormenorizada das várias litologias presentes tendo por base a carta geológica nº 14-D (Aguiar da Beira) e o trabalho de campo à escala 1/10000. A caracterização físico-química dos feldspatos das amostras foi executada no Centro Tecnológico da Cerâmica e do Vidro. Descrevem-se de forma sucinta as metodologias seguidas para a execução dos ensaios adoptados. A caracterização química baseou-se na análise por fluorescência de raios x e a física na análise por difracção de raios x e em ensaios de fusibilidade que tiveram lugar num forno de câmaras a várias temperaturas. Por último, foram seleccionadas algumas amostras para serem submetidas a ensaios de beneficiação utilizando um método de separação magnética. Após beneficiação, as amostras foram novamente caracterizadas física e quimicamente tendo para o efeito sido acrescentado o ensaio por difracção de raios x para identificar mineralogicamente os constituintes das amostras e do resíduo resultante da depuração magnética.

Never before had the pegmatite occurrences located in the neighbourhood of Pinheiro-Aguiar de Beira been studied in such detail and systematically, aiming at their prospecting, cartography and mineralogical characterisation. In the present work a geophysical exploration method-VLF in its magnetic component was applied on Pinheiro pegmatite. The results being achieved were very encouraging. A survey of the pegmatite occurrences was carried out and for the most favorable cases, physical and chemical tests were made to characterize the technological aptitude of co-existent feldspar. Initially a crystal-chemical characterization of the feldspar is put forward, together with its geological occurrence types, beneficiation methods, industrial rentability and a short analysis of inner market. Next, there is a description of the geological and structural aspects of the area in appreciation, namely its geomorphology, its structural framework based on the interpretation of aerial photography on the scale of 1/15000 and its geological frame work with a detailed description of the several co-existent lithology based on the geological map N° 14-D (Aguiar da Beira) and the field work on the scale of 1/10000. The physical-chemical characterization of the feldspar was carried out at the Centro Tecnológico da Cerâmica e do Vidro, in Coimbra. There is a short description of the methods followed in view of the adopted tests. The chemical characterization was based on the analysis by x-ray fluorescence, and the physical characterization was based on x-ray diffraction and on fusibility testes, which took place in a chamber furnace at different temperatures. Finally, some samples were selected to be submitted to beneficiation tests by using a method based on magnetic separation. After beneficiation, the samples were characterized again, physically and chemically. For this effect the test by x-ray diffraction was used for the mineralogical identification of the constituents of both samples and residues resulting from the magnetic depuration.
